E-Stim
our philosophy
Chiropractic is founded on the principle that true health comes from within, and can enhance your body’s natural ability to adapt, heal, and move.
Electrical Stimulation or E-Stim
Electrical stimulation or e-stim uses a machine to produce electrical impulses that are conveyed to the body through specifically placed adhesive pads . Depending on the desired therapeutic outcome these impulses can stimulate the motor or sensory nerves in the muscle.
These small electric impulses help to:
- decrease pain
- lessen muscle spasms
- increase muscle strength
- blood circulation
- range of motion
Therapy that uses electrical impulses to stimulate motor nerve cells, or neurons, is called Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation or NMES. The goal of this type of stimulation is to increase strength, range of motion, and offset the effects of disuse. It is often used to “re-train” or “re-educate” a muscle to function and to build strength after a surgery or period of disuse. It can also be used to stimulate muscle contraction that will release muscular knots and spasms.
Therapy that uses electrical impulses to stimulate sensory pain nerves, or nociceptors, is called Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). TENS is commonly used to help with chronic pain. This type of stimulation is used for healing wounds, alleviating pain, decreasing inflammation and swelling of affected tissues.
Common conditions treated include:
- Back/Neck pain
- Back/Neck spasm
- Joint pain
- Arthritis
- Muscle conditioning (mostly for athletes, such as long-distance runners)
- Muscle injury from trauma or disease
- Nerve inflammation
- Poor muscle strength
- Cancer-related pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Surgery recovery
